"A MODERN TAKE ON GAY RELATIONSHIPS... A QUEER INDIE DREAM"
- OUT MAGAZINE
This uncharacteristically sweet 1996 independent film from writer/director Leslie Smith stars Anthony Rapp and Camryn Manheim as NYC roommates. David is a young, gay, aspiring documentary filmmaker who takes his first tentative steps towards his adult life. Gwen, ending a mysterious marriage, is looking for stability. Together, they try to maneuver their way through New York on a search for happiness. Instead they find bad dates, worse job interviews and bizarre sexual encounters. The supporting cast features well known theater actors in surprising cameos. DAVID SEARCHING will warm your heart as these richly portrayed characters laugh through the trials of life.
"Smith puts his wry, witty voice into every character"
-Anita gates, New York Times
"A witty, wryly observed and engaging comedy about the search for love and life's meaning"
"For all it's 90's knowingness, David Searching is oddly reminiscent of such comedies of the 60's and 70's like Francis Ford Coppola's You're a Big Boy Now, and Brian De Palma's Hi, Mom!... Rubenesque women will cheer Manheim, she empowers the wide of waist pulling them out of the dark wallflower corner and into the sunny land of the desired."
